A Bit of Info on the Greying Process

Most Greys are foaled a different color than gray. Prior to going gray, the grey gene tends to make the horse a darker color than it would have been without the grey gene. A bay that does not carry the grey gene will have sandy or fawn color legs where they will shed out black. A bay foal that has the grey gene will usually be foaled with black legs. Many greys tend to start the greying process in the face or head area. Horses that have the grey gene will grey over time as the horse matures, thus, as the horse ages, it will progressively lighten. For further info on the greying process, please visit; www.equinecolor.com go to color info; color modifiers; grey.

-Examples of the Greying Process-

Ally at about two weeks. Notice how black her legs are which is not typical of a bay foal that has not shed out yet. Also notice that she has no white on her face.

Notice that Ally now appears to have a snip. Around her eyes and ears, she is much lighter. You can see the contrast of her mane against her greying coat. More photos of her present color can be seen on Contact us page

Ally as a two year old. Gray is very evident.

Jack at about 1 week old. Notice how black his legs are instead of the typical fawn color that a bay foal would have which is a possible indicator that a foal will grey out. Also notice that he has no white that can be seen on his face.

Jack at 6 months. Notice the white on his face that appears to be a small star. He has the start of white around the edges of his ears and notice the contrast of the mane against his greying coat. More photos can be seen on the Contact Us page.

Most breeders keep the foal that they consider their best. When I told my husband that I was still going to sell Breezy, I was given "One of those Looks". With my experience or lack of experience, I cannot bring her to her full potential.  At times, she shows a very high stepping and lengthy trot. There is a lot of power behind that trot! As much as I would love to keep her, she belongs with someone that can take her to that full potential. Versatile show home a must but Breezy must also be somewhere that  will also allow her to be something other than a show horse.

Breezy has a very nice top line. She has small tipped ears and a pretty face. Her shoulder is nicely angled. Upon seeing her, our farrier commented on how nice her feet appear and how straight her legs are. Breezy is very curious and loves attention. At 3 days old, I took the clippers out and she came right up to them to check them out while they were running. With no form of restraint, she allowed me to run them across her neck, withers and down her front legs! Will be nominated for Michigan Morgan Horse Breeders Futurity and be registered for lifetime points with USEF awards program.
